Tony Alvarez, MSW is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan School of Social Work where he teaches,
advises, and supervises Master's level graduate students. Prior to this, Tony worked as a school social worker for 21
years with the Monroe County Intermediate School District. During that time, he developed and served as Director of the
MCISD Adventure Program. He also provided clinical supervision for graduate students of Social Work and Psychology during
his tenure at the University Center for Child and Family. As an educator, trainer and therapist, Tony uses experiential
and adventure techniques and tools to optimize the learning experience for the participant/client.

Gary Stauffer, MSW, CSW has spent the past thirty years of professional social work practice working with children and youth.
Those years have included a decade of clinical work in community mental health settings and the past twenty years as a school
social worker, including ten years in a day treatment program for youth with a severe emotional impairment. Gary brings a
passion for adventure therapy and the task of integrating experiential approaches into the overall service delivery system
for children and youth. His current professional activities include co-ownership of Adventures In Training, Inc, managing
an adventure program for the Monroe County Intermediate School District, teaching as an adjunct lecturer for the University
of Michigan School of Social, and serving as a Council Member on the Association for Experiential Education Heartland Region Council.
