Our past and our present

Tony Alvarez and Gary Stauffer started their consulting practice in 1990, in order to provide experiences that create rich learning opportunities, build strong work communities and enhance the use of experiential approaches that encourage growth, change and transformation.

Since 1990, we have partnered with schools, community-based organizations, nonprofits and others to design and deliver programs that meet the needs of our unique clients. We specialize in working with three types of clients: health and human service organizations (including schools, clinics, hospitals, community-based human service organizations, therapeutic camps, etc.), non-profit organizations, and social enterprises or other socially conscious businesses. Our mission is to increase the efficiency, effectiveness and engagement level of our partners.

Alvarez Consulting is now a family owned and operated business, with operations in Michigan, Colorado and Oregon. Our team is excited to get to know you and to help you solve your greatest organizational roadblocks.

Alvarez Consulting has changed the way our students interact and has helped create a stronger, more stable school environment for all students, faculty and staff.

what we offer

  • Training and consultation: Our custom training programs aim to help service providers who wish to expand their use of experiential and adventure-based practice. Our training curriculum offers a framework for effective facilitation and leadership that can be applied in a variety of settings, including schools, hospitals, correctional facilities, community-based organizations and camps. All of our training and consultation programs seek to integrate a blend of lecture, discussion and hands-on experience in to the learning process.

  • Team building and staff development: Our programs involve active participation in hands-on experiences designed to meet the needs of the agency/organization. We don't believe in meaningless ice breakers and we will ensure that your team feels safe and comfortable, while being pushed to increase effective communication, sense of belonging/inclusion and fun.

  • Organizational capacity building: Our years of experience have helped us realize that staff development is just one piece of a very complicated organizational puzzle. Without appropriate strategic planning, program development/design, evaluation frameworks and fundraising plans, even the most high functioning staff teams will struggle. We can work with you to strengthen your organizational structure
